Explore The Great Horned Owl

The Sainte Genevieve Museum Learning Center will welcome award-winning naturalist Mark Glenshaw this Saturday, Aug. 26th at 1:00 p.m.  He’ll be talking about Great Horned Owls and his 17-years of research on a particular group of owls in Forest Park, particularly one owl named Charles.

The presentation is sponsored by John Karel, who has received numerous national, state, and local awards for leadership in park and historic site management and wilderness preservation.

Glenshaw will talk about how he found the owls, what they hunt, how many babies they have, and the many different behaviors they have. He’ll have photos and videos of the very owls he’s been studying.

Mark says after studying these owls for so long, you naturally get attached to them.

“You get really interested in them, you get concerned about them, and they are endlessly fascinating, he said. “Everything they do is just gorgeous and fascinating.”

Mark talked about why he started studying the Great Horned Owl.

“They are amazing on every level,” he said. “They are beautiful, they are fascinating, they are complex, every night is unique, and after 17 years of studying them, I have more questions now then when I started.”

Mark describes his presentation as energetic, engaging, entertaining and educational. His presentation at the Sainte Genevieve Museum Learning Center will again be held this Saturday at 1 pm.  The presentation is free to museum members. Otherwise, museum admission will apply.

The following is a recent interview the museum had with Mr. Glenshaw.
