AS WE HONOR BRUCE STINCHCOMB FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD OF GEOLOGY AND PALEONTOLOGY

As an educator, author and geologist, his work has influenced countless individuals. Bruce will give a presentation on the trail-blazing 19th century geologist David Dale Owen, whose work had a great influence on him.

With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Stinchcomb has been retired since 2005, having worked at St. Louis Community College as a professor of geology since 1969, an associate professor of geology from 1968 to 1975, and a full professor after 1975. In addition to his geology courses, he taught earth sciences and paleontology. Prior to those roles, he was a teacher of earth science and chemistry at McCluer High School from 1966 to 1968. Earlier in his career, he was a teacher with the Fox C-6 School District and a field geologist with the Missouri Geological Survey from 1962 to 1963. He also worked many summers doing geologic and mineral exploration for various companies and institutions in remote parts of Wyoming and Montana, northern Canada and Alaska.

Dr. Stinchcomb has published 12 books relating to geology and paleontology, including “World’s Oldest Fossils,” “Stromatolites: Ancient, Beautiful, and Earth-Altering,” “Paleozoic Fossils,” “More Paleozoic Fossils”, “Paleozoic Fossil Plants,” “Meteorites,” “Mesozoic Fossils I: Triassic & Jurassic Periods,” “Mesozoic Fossils II: The Cretaceous Period,” “Cenozoic Fossils 1: Paleogene,” “Cenozoic Fossils II The Neogene,” “Mineral Treasures of the Ozarks” and “Jewels of the Early Earth: Minerals and Fossils of the Precambrian.”
