Sainte Genevieve Art Colony

Ste. Genevieve Art Colony 1930-1940
Wednesday, May 27 – 6:30 p.m.
Orris Theater in Ste. Genevieve
Sponsored by Bryant Restoration

For decades, artists across America escaped crowded cities each summer to gather in small-town art colonies — places where creativity thrived, friendships formed, and artistic boundaries were pushed.

In 1930, a group of St. Louis painters found their way to Ste. Genevieve, drawn by its beauty, affordability, and slower pace of life. But what began as a quiet artistic retreat soon became something much more colorful. Discover who these artists were, what inspired them, why they eventually left, and whether life in this close-knit creative community was as peaceful as it appeared.

Join us for a fascinating look at the forgotten story of Ste. Genevieve’s art colony — where art, history, personalities, and perhaps a little drama all came together along the Mississippi.

Presenter Carolyn Bach, whose passion for blending art and history, brings this unique chapter of Ste. Genevieve’s past to life.

Presentation is free to museum members, otherwise admission will apply
