Museum celebrates anniversary with GTO

The Sainte Genevieve Museum Learning Center (SGMLC) is nearing its 90th anniversary and is inviting the community to help celebrate with a fun evening of music at the Orris.

The popular GTO Band, who is also celebrating an anniversary—it’s 35th, will be performing on Saturday, October 28 from 8-12 pm. The band will feature the greatest hits from the ‘50s, ’60s and ‘70s. Tickets are $10 in advance by visiting the museum’s website (stegenmuseum.org) or $15 at the door. Admission proceeds will benefit the SGMLC, thanks to the generosity of Dick Greminger.

Halloween costumes are welcome and will add to the fun of the evening.

The groundbreaking for the original Ste. Genevieve Library and Museum, now the Ste. Genevieve Art Center and Art Museum, occurred on June 5, 1933.

When the Sainte Genevieve Museum opened its doors in 1935, as part of the town’s bicentennial celebration, the building and its contents were the crowning jewel on the town square.

And still is today, although the original museum moved to the Koetting building.  After several years of extensive renovation, the building features two levels totaling 11,500 square feet of usable space. This building, over 100 years old, is a piece of history in its own right and is perfect for today’s museum learning center.

At the museum learning center, we regularly feature lectures, demonstrations, and history seminars to make it a true learning center.

The Sainte Genevieve Museum Learning Center, a not-for-profit, is open daily 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
